Lupton Paper

Lupton, R.D. (2011). Toxic Charity: How churches and charities hurt those they help (and how to reverse it). New York: Harper One.

Using the above book I listed write a 5 page paper.

Details: The paper should consist of your thoughts and reactions regarding the book.

Describe Lupton’s main themes related to why charity can be toxic. What does he suggest that could be done to reverse problems associated with charity? Do you agree with this description? (why/why not?) Is there anything in the book which led you to a new point of view or challenged your beliefs? What social work principles, values and ethics apply to what he describes? How do your own personal faith and/or values relate to Lupton’s perspectives.

Lupton’s book is the only source necessary for this paper. You do not need to do outside research. No other soruce other than the book.

Start your paper with an introductory paragraph, include a body with headings and end with a conclusion paragraph.

Will be graded based on the following, so please make sure the paper is very clear and it makes sense and understandable and incorrperate these criteria as well.

Grading criteria: Grades will be determined by the following:

How well you articulate your reactions to the book
Your ability to identify Lupton’s themes
Your ability to critically examine Lupton’s themes (Are they logical? Do they fit with biblical Christian values? Are there areas Lupton needs to elaborate on?)
Your use of APA style writing, proper grammar and sentence structure.
