Species Monograph and Presentation Figure Guidelines
You must include figures from the following sources in your species monograph and presentation:

Visit https://www.allaboutbirds.org and search for your species. On your species’ page, click on “Maps.” Simply cut and paste the distribution map into your word document. Your distribution map should look something like the map below.
eBird
You must include the following figures from eBird in your species monograph and presentation:
eBird Instructions:
Visit https://ebird.org/home and click on the “Explore” tab.
For the distribution maps, click on “Species Maps.” Type is your species’ common name in the “Species:” field. Type in your desired location in the “Location” field or zoom to your desired location using the zoom tools in the upper left. Uncheck the “Not Reported” box under the frequency scale at the bottom right corner. Use your computer’s “Snipping Tool” to capture a picture of each map and a picture of the frequency scale. Paste a picture of each map into your word document. In the bottom right corner of each map, paste a picture of the frequency scale. Your finished maps should look something like the New Jersey map on the next page. Insert four separate pictures of your maps into the “figures” section of your monograph.Follow all directions in the“figures” section of the monograph outline.
eBird Instructions (continued):
For the line graph, click on “Bar Charts.” Select “United States” and “New Jersey” in the dropdown menus. Check the “Entire region” circle and then click “Continue.” Scroll down or use “CTRL F” to locate your species. After finding your species in the list of choices, click on the “line graphs” icon located to the right of your species’ name. Click on the “Totals” tab above the line graph. The “Totals” tab gives you a graph that shows the sums of all observations counted by eBird on specified calendar days from 1900 to 2018. With this graph you can tell which calendar days are best for observing your species in New Jersey. Your finished graph should look something like the graph below.Insert a picture of your graph into the “figures” section of your monograph. Follow all directions in the “figures” section of the monograph outline. Note: if you have trouble generating a graph forNew Jersey, you may generate and include a graph for the entire United States instead. Just make sure your figure legend says “United States” instead of “New Jersey.”
Christmas Bird Count (CBC):
Visit http://netapp.audubon.org/cbcobservation/, point your cursor at the “Historical” tab and click “Results by Species” in the dropdown menu. Fill out the fields to produce a word document with a graph that looks similar to the graph below. Insert a picture of your graph into the “figures” section of your monograph. Follow all directions in the “figures” section of the monograph outline. Note: if you have trouble generating a graph for New Jersey, you may generate and include a graph for the entire United States instead. Just make sure your figure legend says “United States” instead of “New Jersey.”
Breeding Bird Survey (BBS)
Visit https://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs/ and click on “USGS Analyzed Results.” Click on the “Survey Results” pull down tab, and then click “Trend Maps.” You’ll be taken to another page where you can use a pull down tab to select your species. Once you click on your species, a map should appear that looks similar to the map below.Insert a picture of your map into the “figures” section of your monograph. Follow all directions in the“figures” section of the monograph outline.
