Write the 1st draft of your Argumentative Research Paper using the APA style of documentation. The argumentative research paper should be approximately 8-9 pages in length, complete with an abstract of 150 words, an interesting introduction and thesis statement, at least 6 references, a well-developed conclusion, and the reference page. Helmer discusses what it takes to be defined as a trophy in North America. The desire and passion for hunters to take an animal that is considered a trophy is something hunters live for. This article dives into depth for each species in North America and what it takes to be a trophy animal.

This is beneficial to my paper as it details what is defined as a trophy in North America. This lays the groundwork for why people choose to harvest a trophy animal vice harvesting a young immature animal and why people will pay a lot of money to harvest a trophy. The more money people pay to harvest a trophy animal the more money generated for the local economy as well as at the state level.

This article discusses in detail the cost of hunting trophy lions and how the cost of the lion hunts benefits local economies. With the banning of trophy lion hunting the potential for negative impacts to include land management decline and herd mismanagement could result in problems for farmers and their livestock. Poaching is a major problem in Africa. Money generated by trophy hunting is used to combat poachers. A ban on trophy would most definitely hinder governments attacking poachers.

This article shows the breakdown of the cost for lion hunting and how that revenue is used by local governments. Banning trophy lion hunting could have negative impacts to farmers, conservation efforts for the lions, as well as a dramatic decrease in monetary gains for local economies.

In this article Macdonald discusses how Trophy Hunting lions is important to conservation in Africa as well as how the amount of money placed on a “trophy lion” is a huge amount and that money helps the local economies. This article touches on the gaps of knowledge that some might have on how lion hunting is beneficial at all. Also, this article lays out how if trophy lion hunting were to end, how it would affect the overall source of revenue for African governments.

This article is important in my stance that Trophy Hunting, to include Lion hunting, should be allowed because it lays out the importance of revenue that is brought in as well as how keeping the lion population in check is important to conservation efforts as well as local farmers. Lion conservation is important so that the number of lions does not get out of control and start attacking local people or their animals. It also brings in a huge amount of revenue for governments that issue the Lion hunting tags. This article demonstrates how proper management affects lion population. Although there is no known concrete data on how many lions are hunted, since many are poached illegally, there is proof that where lion conservation does exist the possibility of ending It could be detrimental to the lion population as well as the local economies.

McKean, A. (2017). Doyle Moss: The Trophy Hunter. Outdoor Life, 225(1), 45.

In this short article McKean describes Moss who is a licensed guide in the Midwest states in the United States. He discusses that Moss enjoys guiding hunters who pay for the high-priced hunts because it’s because the money spent on those hunts goes back to improving all the habitat for all animals. The hunting and conservation expo has raised millions by auctioning off trophy hunts and that money is used for wildlife conservation. The bigger the trophy the more money the auction brings in.

Hunting is conservation. People spend millions of dollars each year to hunt. Auctioned trophy hunts are common and the money that is generated from the auction helps improve wildlife habitat and wildlife conservation. Paying a guide for a trophy hunt helps improve successful odds of harvesting a mature trophy animal.

In this article, Potgierter refers to the five conservancies in specifically Namibia (Kunene) and the conservation efforts they have implemented. This article shows that if planned properly and managed effectively the benefit to Trophy Hunting is huge to the local economy where in some instance’s trophy hunting is all they have and would not exist without. It also lays out how the selective taking of a certain species for Trophy Status increases the herd sustainability since the number of animals harvested is limited to mature trophy animals only.

This article is important to my stance since not only does trophy hunting play an important role in conservation it plays and equal role in helping economies that depend on trophy hunting. Without trophy hunting some of these local conservancies would fail to exist. The revenue brought in by Trophy Hunters, as well as the meat that is donated, helps the small towns flourish and survive.

In this article Niki Rust, a renown PHD candidate in carnivore conservation, discusses the major differences between people that poach and people that trophy hunt. She emphasizes how for trophy hunting local governments issue a certain number of tags to be sold to hunters to allow them to hunt a certain species of animal. The revenue brought into the local government from hunters all over the world is a huge revenue source for the entire area. Rust lays out the framework on how Banning Trophy Hunting could result in the decline of an entire species

simply because the land that they habitat on is turned over for farming and the amount of revenue from farming pales in comparison to trophy hunting and thus hurts the local economy.

This article exemplifies my stance that Trophy Hunting, although shunned and looked down by some people, is necessary for conservation of the local animal population as well as the increase of revenue for the local communities and governments. This article provides facts on wildlife management and the negative effects on banning trophy hunting for the local economy as well as the effect on effectively managing a wildlife herd.
