Assignment 1
A Microsoft Excel file is attached to the Compass assignment that is named “porkConsumption.xlsx”. This file has yearly pork consumption data by country. Data are for the years from 2000 to 2021 (columns in the Excel file) for different countries (rows). The data is sorted by consumption in 2021 (column V) from the highest to lowest consumption. The consumption values are given in units of 1,000 metric ton (MT) carcass-weight-equivalent (CWE). A value of 47,995 in the spreadsheet is 47,995,000 metric ton CWE. This could be referred to as 47.995 million metric ton CWE or 47,995 thousand metric ton CWE. Be consistent in your units. The data comes from the Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The data is from the Production, Supply, and Distribution data (https://apps.fas.usda.gov/psdonline). List the source as “Foreign Agriculture Service: PSD Online”.
You will use this data to describe the countries that consume the most pork. Moreover, you will describe changes in consumption over time. To accomplish this, answer the following four specific questions:
1.Complete a line graph showing total consumption in the world by year. Total consumption is found by summing consumption across all countries. Indicate the average yearly growth rate from 2000 to 2021. Write a brief sentence or two describing what has happened to total world consumption from 2000 to 2021.
2.Complete a one-line graph showing consumption by country over time (see graph guidelines below). In the graph, only include the four largest countries. Place consumption for all other countries in one line called “All others”. Write a paragraph describing changes over time.
3.Prepare a table showing proportion of total consumption by country for the year 2000 and 2021. Has there been changes?
4.Write a paragraph or two summarizing trends in consumption over time.
Assignment 2
Attached to the assignment tab on Compass is a file named “psd_livestock.csv”. This file contains data from the Foreign Agriculture Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture called “Production, Supply and Distribution Online” (https://apps.fas.usda.gov/psdonline/app/index.html). This data was used to create the file “porkConsumption.xlxs” you used in assignment 1.
Use this data to analyze swine exports and imports. The commodity will be “meat, swine”.
In assignment 2 you will complete a paper entitled:
World Survey of Production, Uses, and Trade in Pork from 2000 to 2021
This will include five sections:
1.Introduction

5.Imports (Same as assignment 1, but for imports)
6.Summary section
