Internet’s network layer

The network layer provides services to a single packet or a flow of packets. These services are provided through Internet addressing. IP Protocol is a major component of the Internet’s network layer and the Internet Protocol (IP). There are two versions of IP: IP version 4 (IPv4) and IP version 6 (IPv6).
