INTRO TO ACTING

INTRO TO ACTING – PRODUCTION REACTION PAPERS – FALL 2020

Students are required to live stream three of the five department productions being performed this semester. You can choose whichever three productions you prefer. Please note that these productions are being live-streamed and must be watched at the time and date of the performance you choose. (They are not available on-demand.)

Due to pandemic restrictions, these productions will be done as readings, with minimal sets, props, costumes or blocking.

After watching the performances, students will submit a 2-3 page typed ‘Reaction Paper’. Unlike the ‘free-writing’ style of the rest of the assignments this semester, student papers should by professional in style, using correct grammar and style.

Through your paper, I’d like you to answer the following questions:

-What was your overall reaction to the production and play? (Did you like it, why/why not? Did it speak to you in any particular way, if so, how?, etc…) 25 POINTS

-What did you think of the performances in the show? What did you think of the acting? Why did you feel that way? Did the performances reflect anything we’ve learned in class? 20 POINTS

-Choose one character in the story. Discuss the overall objective of the character in the story- what did the character want in the story? And what tactics did they use to try to achieve that goal? 25 POINTS

-And finally, why do you think the department chose this particular play here and now? There are so many plays in the world, why did they choose this story, here at SUNY New Paltz, in 2020? 20 POINTS

The final 10 POINTS will be the overall grammar and writing of the paper. –
