Select one of the following books related to agricultural production practices about which ethical concerns could be raised. For example, environmental impacts of crop and livestock production. Once you have selected and read your book, you will gather your thoughts and write an analysis paper about it (university studies course objective).
Book Options:
The End of Plenty by Joel K. Bourne Jr.
The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Mind if I Order the Cheeseburger by Sherry F. Colb
Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel
Three Famines by Thomas Keneally
From Field to Fork by Paul B. Thompson
The Viking in the Wheat Field by Susan Dworkin
Evicted by Matthew Desmond
Thirst by Scott Harrison
Each book is available in Kindle and IPad version, as well as paper back at local libraries and bookstores. If locating a book is an issue for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Svenson.
Analysis Paper:
Explain why you think your book will or will not be read in 25, 50, and 100 years. Support your opinion with examples from the book, relating them back to ethical theories discussed throughout the course. You are also encouraged to use examples from class discussions and other materials, as well as other resources you find.
Your paper must demonstrate critical thinking. All resources used, including the book, should be cited appropriately using APA, MLA, or Chicago-style format. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in an automatic ‘0’ on the assignment.
Format:
Use complete sentences and multiple paragraphs. Please use a reliable spelling and grammar checker or have the Writing Center review your paper before you submit it. Use 12-point font, Times New Roman or Calibri, and double spacing. Your paper should be from 3 to 5 pages long, not including a title page and a References page. Make sure your name and a page number are on every page.
Grading Rubric:
Please look at the Grading Rubric (see Analysis Paper REVIEW RUBRIC). Since the rubric is used to grade your analysis paper, reviewing it might help you to prepare your paper.
