For my city, I would suggest civic building types. These are a series of spaces providing the town with its essential needs. I would select this option because it includes everything from public meeting spaces to government offices, ensuring all community members are honored.

Question 2

Why do you think that Andy Warhol chose the process of silkscreen printing to depict his subjects, be they famous icons or humble cans of soup? Research silkscreen prints by Warhol. What does the process he used add to the meaning of these artworks? Do you think they would have been as effective if they were paintings?

Andy Warhol opted for this style because the process allowed him to reproduce his images quickly. He had appropriated the images from popular cultures. The photographic silkscreen printing helped Andy create defined and precise images. I do not think they would have been as effective if they were paintings. I believe this would be because, unlike the prints that could have the size and the image adjusted, it may lose its originality if one does that to a painting.

Question 3

Robert Rauschenberg made his artwork by erasing parts of another artist’s creation. When used in this way, do you think that the eraser is a valid artistic medium? Which of the two artists do you think deserves more credit for this work? What factors affect your decision?

An artistic medium is a term that explains what the components of art are and what composes the form. In this case, the eraser is an artistic medium because the final art is made through it. Even though it comes from someone else’s work, there is a new final piece of art when an artist uses an eraser. The artist I believe deserves more credit is the original artist. In this case, I would not give Robert credit for the piece I question. This is because the idea is not his, and how well does he know what the final piece was to look like? What if the first artist only meant for the work to be that way, and it made sense to him? Various factors impact my decision, including the original meaning of the piece and the intended final product. When Robert takes a piece and edits it, they are completing it from their perspective and not the original owners………..
