Financial Statement Analysis: This project provides you with an opportunity to apply course concepts to a real world situation. You are my financial advisor and I have asked you to recommend whether or not I should invest in a publicly traded company of your choice. You will need to perform a comprehensive financial statement analysis (at least 10 ratios), compare your company’s ratios to either a competitor or the industry, and recommend, based on your analysis, whether I should invest in the company. The Company must be publically traded and listed on either the NYSE or the NASDAQ.
Financial Statements: There are numerous sources to obtain company financial statements. However, I recommend that you use the SEC’s EDGAR database (http://edgar.sec.gov). Click on the blue box near the bottom right that says “Search Company Filings” and type in the company’s name.
Paper Details: Present your analysis of the company’s recent financial statements (3 years of I/S and 4 years of B/S data). Use the text, course tools plus outside sources to corroborate and supplement your analysis.
Your written discussion of your analysis is to be at least 10 pages, but no more than 12 pages. You are to use APA format. Grammar, spelling, and clarity count as does the professionalism of your work product.
Format:
- Include an executive summary and a table of contents.
- Use section headings, summaries, tables and other techniques to communicate effectively.
- Include tables with labels containing all the ratios from each type of analysis.
References: Outside sources include articles, websites, databases and other library sources. However, your primary source of information must be the textbook and the financial statements. Cite your sources within your paper. Internet citations must provide a URL that goes directly to the material.
Power Point Presentation: You will prepare a power point presentation and present your findings to the class. The power point presentation will consist of at least 10 slides, but no more than 12 slides.
