Benchmark 2
For this benchmark, you will address some of the issues in sports that have historically challenged the field and currently require our attention. Your goal is to address five major issues of your choosing while framing the necessity for attentiveness, resolution, and continued advocacy in these areas.
Directions:
1. Choose five “issues” to address for this benchmark. There are several issues outlined in your textbook. These include threats to the integrity of sports (gambling, academic issues with collegiate athletes, rule-breaking), girls’ and women’s’ sport participation, race relations and participation by racial and ethnic minorities, sports opportunities for senior citizens, sports opportunities for those with special needs, youth sports and the pressure to “perform”, and intercollegiate athletics (politics, big money issues).
2. Create a poster using MS Powerpoint or Google Slides that is a visual collage of the five challenges you have chosen. You will have to search online for pictures, but I encourage you to search well and not just choose random pictures. Make sure the pictures you choose have real meaning based on how you want to represent the issues chosen. You are not limited to five pictures, but the poster itself must include at least five photos to represent each chosen issue. You are free to choose more than five. I encourage you to make this a true collage with minimal “white space” on the poster.
3. You must also write a one to two-page narrative on why you chose the photos and how they represent each major issue. In your narrative, be sure to provide a general description of the issue and why it matters to the field of Sports. Also, include discussion about why it’s important for us to keep our eye on this issue and resolve/address it in the near future. Please use 12-pt font, double spacing. Please cite at least two references using APA formatting and try your best to integrate these as in-text citations in the body of the writing. Reference list is required.
