Do not place the questions or scenario on your Word document as it will impact your Turnitin originality score.  Please contact me early in the week if you have a question.  Write your responses to the tasker numbering them as you go.

Please be prepared to help your agency’s HRM Director on a special project that may put you in line for the assisting HRM Director position when it opens.  Thus, this is an important opportunity to help you shine  The Director is developing a management training program for new management leadership positions in the agency.  You will be given four tasks to complete to help in this high profile endeavor.  You will have a mix of managers who have worked in agency whollytechnical-based jobs and some new outside manager prospects that you will help in accessing their skills.  But for now, it is your job to complete these four tasks that will help develop the management trainee program.

Since your Director knows you have been through an organizational behavior masters course recently, you are being asked to help in the four tasks outlined below.  This can help you really shine in the Director’s eyes,  and is a great opportunity to show the value of your education in helping you in a future job prospect of a position working directly with the Director of the agency.  It’s time to shine.  Answer the taskers you have required to complete to finalize this part of the training.  If you have any questions, please consult with the Director.  She likes to be contacted early in the process and not at the last minute or this may demonstrate you are not taking your task seriously and the quality will be low.

You have watched several previous employees not shine in these tasks and no longer are considered for the assistant position.  You don’t want to miss your opportunity to stand out as a great prospect for promotion.

Due Dates on the Assignment Submission Area:

The first of this project (completing the four taskers)  must be completed by Wednesday of week 6.  The second part of your project is that you must evaluate “Comprehensively” another person’s completed in-basket by Sunday of week 6 (that person will be assigned to you and will show on your homepage on  Wed of week 6).  Get started early on these taskers (late penalties apply as always as you have plenty of time to complete this assignment early or on time—see syllabus for late policy). Yourcolleague Review will be due Sunday of Week 6.  Please look early over the taskers early so as a good administrator you can time manage each and provide comprehensive responses.  Some may be more difficult than they seem and have a variety of different elements.  Please place entire assignment on a word document.

If your assignment is late (after week 6 Wed evening) you will be impacting another student in completing a critique on your assignment. For this reason for this particular assignment, you will lose 20% of your assignment grade for turning it in late.

Plagiarizing note: Do not submit with this tasker but a separate file that contains your answers. Turnitin is used for each assignment.  As with any of your assignments, if copying any portion of these tasks are completed the assignment will receive a zero. As well, if a critiquing student finds a copied area or something not referenced and not in the writers own words, that will be brought to my attention immediately please rightfully mirroring the integrity level of your organization and protecting its reputation.  As always you are not permitted to quote either.

1) FIRST TASKER: Eportfolio assessment:

Your first tasker is to recommend three management trainees by reviewing their online job portfolios. As you know, if you have been around your manager for any length of time, you realize that the Director is a huge fan of reviewing good electronic portfolios for choosing outside talent for the agency. Reviewing individuals who are already demonstrating their digital capability of handling the web by using ePortfolios helps take the first step infinding a “modernized” manager.  Choosing past manager trainees with the ability to work modernized elements to display their work experience and educational talents along with posting it in a professional electronic portfolio online have helped spot higher caliber management trainees in the market.  Location of the individual is not a factor and of course, we abide by all EEOC rules and laws as an agency.  Remember these are newly hired management trainees that will remain on probation for 90 days.

Your task is to review the following possible candidate’s portfolios below for one of the agency’s general management trainee positions in the agency who will be in this next training class.  Management traineesneed to have the flexibility to rotate through several areas in the organization working as assistants to the managers in several different departments.  This rotation will follow their initial management training course given by the HRM to ascertain where they best fit in the organization.   HR has recently projected several openings starting in the next two years spurred by a large group of managers planning to retire in the organization. This transition will allow at least a year and a half for most of these manager trainees to work under the departments before taking on the job. You will decide the top three choices from the below portfolios sent by HR and explain why they would be your choices to add to the management trainee group already gathered for our training. Review the portfolio training information below to support your points as to the evaluation of their professional portfolio.

PORTFOLIO EVALUATION SUPPORT MATERIALS: First take a look at what some organizations suggest should be in a good portfolio:

APPLICANTS PORTFOLIOS TO CHOOSE 3 of the best: Now take a look at these portfolio choices and choose three using the above portfolio suggestions to back your points. (give it time to load for each page) it time to load for each page) (give it time to load for each page) (give it time to load for each page)

Second tasker on the following page:

SECOND TASKER:Find two TED Talks that have never been used by this or any other MPA instructor in your classes that will help trainee managers reflect on ideas that will improve their management skill in leadership, managing conflict, and motivation of their employees. Once you have found two of these videos, explain to your Director in detail using multiple textual evidence from the textbook (paraphrased and in-text citation) and some supporting evidence from the video that will convince your Director this will be well worth the time for the class to listen to these videos. 300 words “minimum, not maximum” (hint) for each written review of the video.  (Stay away from the topic diversity as that will be covered in another in-basket exercise).   *Always note the Director provides minimums to see what prospective employee likes to complete minimal work and which employees excel further for higher points.

THIRD TASKER: This communication exercise for the management trainees though different, will challenge trainees to focus on how others understand their communications and instructions.  Your task to prepare a “good” example of what a good answer would be in completing the following exercise. Your answer will be provided to the student’s after they have completed their task to show them an example of the “best” way to complete the below task.  The exercise for the management trainees will be as follows:

Instructions: Manager trainees will be asked to view the following video (without sound or transcripts) that shows how to make an origami duck out of a dollar bill.  They are then to write the instructions on how another adult (no skill in origami) would fold a dollar bill to look like a duck.  You can describe folds, straight lines, edges, valleys, right, left raw edges (with the definition of these terms if you wish etc.)  Thus, their numerical written instruction (only, no visual instructions at all can be used) should be as follows (you decide how many steps you need and make sure to have the materials to help …a dollar bill):

You will provide the “best” example of the list of Instructions to later provide to the Students after they complete the task of writing their own set of instructions.  For example:

1)  Take out a crisp dollar bill and place it (either side up) on a flat surface…

Goal of the Tasker: The result should be that the trainee’s instructions should easily and clearly be followed to have the reader of the instructions build an origami to match the picture below. This means that your example should show this.

Purpose: This exercise will help the team of managers perform together and understand how they need to keep others in mind when communicating instructions.  (see the picture but again you cannot provide any visual aid to any part of the instructions).

Hints on your task:  Your instructions should write a “best” example to provide to trainees once they finish as to what their instructions should look like. You would need to make sure your “excellent” example is succinct and accurately “written” instructions to show the best way to write accurate instructions for this exercise.   Remember not only will the Director review your “best” answer but a colleague will be attempting your directions to evaluate this part of your tasks to see if you have written clear directions that anyone can follow without seeing or knowing what form they are making until they have finished   (Caution: as a manager, you want to make sure the instructions are in “your own words” and that you provide solid information using easily understood language that is not confusing to the unskilled user. )

4) FOURTH TASKER:Build a detailed infographic to be used by a special training session that is referencing other academic websites or sources to produce information on information on any topic covered in text from chapter 7 through 11.  (place sources at the bottom of your page not your infographic in APA format).   You can choose the stats you wish to use and the “outside the text” sources you will use to back up the sections.  When you finish, please attach the informatics made in a word document and write 4 multiple-choice questions that can be asked of the students that are reviewing the informatics information. The informatics should be done in a word document or powerpoint.  Please do not make the question too obvious or easy.  We want our management trainees thinking (and your critique person will be assessing the difficulty level of your questions as well).   Example of an Informatics and the size needed for this portion of the project. (do not copy any part of another infographic).  The more variety in your infographic with understandable information, the better the grade.  Start early. (do not use the following example topics for your infographic or their information.   Infographics are usually longer in paper size (adjust your margins on another word doc and copy the finished product her separately or build it in a ppt and upload it here as well; the paper format should accommodate  8×14 or longer.  (see examples below but do not use either of these topics or the information contained on them as well as their layout.  This is an example is not a template.)   Please do not copy any part of the inforgraphics, it should all be accomplished by you.  You can pull up images that will help you work with the informatics.  Please do not purchase a template or try a template that will force you to pay once you have spent the time to make the infographics.  I want this to be done on powerpoint or in Word where I will see all the additions of the boxes. This means it should not be a snippet, png, jpeg or insert of any type of picture, or I will assume you did not produce it. I should see the tables and stats.  Please google infographics in which there are all kinds of ideas to make a visual presentation of one infographic with multiple visual ways to show data.  You have your example and the level of comprehensiveness I am looking for. This will challenge you, so start early.
