This role-play assignment is the capstone project for the social work degree program. The student will draw from knowledge learned and applied in all three social work courses.
Each student will choose a field of practice and special population group, (ie. aging services, business-industry, child-welfare, corrections and criminal justice, youth services, income maintenance, medical social work, physically and mentally disabled, mental health, etc). Students should keep in mind vulnerable and oppressed populations when making this selection.
In addition to fields of practice and/or special population groups, the student will focus on and include factors of human diversity, such as: women’s issues, racial and ethnic concerns, those with physical and mental disabilities, issues of oppression and discrimination, and issues of homelessness and sexual orientation.
Indicate whether your case will have a micro, mezzo, or macro perspective.
Each individual will:
Research professional journals for your chosen area of focus as well as the particular area of human diversity, and explore the breadth of the selected field and examine the knowledge, values and skills required to successfully practice within it.
Based on your understanding of appropriate intervention and practice, write a hypothetical case demonstrating your understanding of how the intervention is utilized with the clients and workers from diverse backgrounds.(i.e. role play script)
The individual should be sure to demonstrate (i.e. role play script) the assigned or selected intervention and/or field of practice in Social Work and human diversity issues. Cite your research from the journal articles and any other factual information that helped you to choose your intervention.
Each individual is expected to submit a typewritten report covering the information from the journals as well as a script from the role-play that you developed.
Use the telephone book, community resource directory, or information from the public library to locate the services and agencies related to your field of practice. Describe these in your paper and indicate in the role play how your client may feel having to come to you for assistance.
