Future Goal Presentation
1. Integrate liberal arts concepts from prerequisite courses as a basis for leadership in nursing care (Student Learning Outcome 1).
2. Describe theories and principles of leadership relevant to contemporary nursing (Student Learning Outcome 2).
3. Integrate theory and knowledge from nursing, sciences, and humanities with leadership and professional role development (Student Learning Outcome 4).
4. Apply new knowledge to assess professional development goals and lay out a 5 to 10-year plan for the future.
This project is an individual project and is completely without help from fellow classmates. The project will be put through a plagiarism program before grading.
How do you successfully transition into a new role in nursing? What steps would it take? I now want you to close your eyes and see yourself in 5 or 10-years. Where are you professionally? ( answer from student Nurse Practioner for behavioral health/psychiatry ) What did it take to get there? Lay out a plan to get to this goal.
Although I want this to be in APA format, I do want you to write about yourself, so “I” statements are appropriate for this particular project. Include at least 3 references.
Outline:
I. Introduction – why is it important for you to make a 5 to 10-year plan? Where do you see yourself in this time frame? Why is professional development important?
II. Describe Role Transition in a new nursing role – by using Chapter 26, describe the phases of role transition to a new position. You can use a life experience or imagine what a role transition would look like in a completely new role (what you described in your 5 to 10-year plan).
III. Managing your career – what is your future career path (Chapter 27)? What are your goals in your 5 to 10-year plan? What is your career ‘end game’? Pick a career path and explain what it is in detail and what does it take to get there, if you do not plan on going back to school and are content staying where you are at in your career, then pick a career path that has interests you in the past. For example: if you want to be a practitioner, then what does it take to get there? What kind of schooling does it take? What is the future job forecast for this particular job? How much can the position make? What is the professional development or continued education requirements of this job every year or two years? How would you promote yourself to land your ‘dream job’? Find a real advertisement or recruitment for this particular job and attach it to your project.
IV. Prepare for the future – See Chapter 31, how are you going to prepare for the future? How does your 5 to 10-year plan fit with the possible future prospective of the future of nursing? How does the concept of Leadership fit into your future perspective? See page 546 – ponder two Projections of the Future and how do they fit into your 5 to 10-year plan, be specific. What are three things that could derail this future plan and how can you manage them and still make your goals?
V. Pick One Concept and Two Interrelated Concepts related to this subject, be specific.
VI. Conclusion and summary
*Please see the rubric for all details for grading.
