Critical analysis of the wound healing properties of silk fibroin films
Aim: Silk fibroin films are films which made from natural silk. Recently there are evidence and researches suggest these films can accelerate the wound healing process and thus can be used as wound dressings or wound care products
I have attached 7 original papers to be critically analyzed
1- Critical analysis section: around 3000 words
The critical analysis section is the main part of your thesis and it should be a critical analysis of a selection of papers that are relevant to the hypothesis that you have formulated. The number of papers to be discussed will be agreed with your supervisor. You should clearly and carefully describe and critically discuss the methods used to obtain the data, the analysis of the data, including statistical analysis and the conclusions reached by the authors.
Do not simply review the project area. You MUST assess critically the methods used, the data reported, and the conclusions reached in the papers you discuss.
Where appropriate and relevant, graphs, diagrams and tables from published literature may be included as long as the item(s) reproduced comprises less than 5% of the total content of the original paper. In addition, the source of the reproduced item must be cited in the accompanying legend.
In this format of project students should aim to close the critical appraisal section with a concluding section (in lieu of a ‘Discussion’ section) as a ‘Summary Conclusion’ that may be a shorter, simple ‘take home message’ from the studies pursued.
2- Discussion section: around 500 words
The Discussion should not be a rehash of the critical analysis section. Rather, it is where your results are critically interpreted in relation to other work that has been conducted previously.
The Discussion should be used to answer or address the questions outlined in your introduction and incorporated into the project aim.
It is especially important to discuss you critical analysis results and findings in relation to what is known in the literature (citing references to the work that others have produced , you can look for different articles). Comparisons should be made to point out where there are similarities and differences between your work and published results.
Information which supports your observations should be mentioned. Importantly, areas of contradiction and/or contrast should also be discussed. This requires the reading of scientific papers that are relevant to your project and thinking about what they mean for your work. Where there are obviously voids in the results and parts of the original aims and objectives that were unattainable, it may be appropriate to include a short explanation together with recommendations for further work that might be done on the topic.
You can also speculate as to what the results mean, especially if the results are particularly novel. However, it is important to distinguish between ‘observation and interpretation’ and ‘inference and speculation’. You should also discuss future directions in which the work could proceed.
Finally, you can conclude with a short, simple ‘take home message’ from your studies; but, this is optional and not essential.
