DIVERSITY READINGS
Readings: Franklin & Jordan, Ch. 10, Effective Therapeutic Approaches with Ethnic Families and Ch. 11, Family Therapy with Gay and Lesbian Clients (two separate assignments, one for each chapter, due on the dates listed in the syllabus.)
Written assignment: After reading the assignment, answer the following questions. In order to promote discussion in class, each student is to complete this assignment on his or her own. The questions are to be answered in writing: double-spaced, in 11 or 12-point font, with the section titles below included before each answer. Please try to respond in one page, or if necessary, two. The grading criteria for this assignment are listed below.

What was your feeling response or responses to this reading? This section is a feeling, not thinking, response. Examples of feelings are: Annoyed, surprised, confused, excited, interested, unsure, angry, happy, bored, scared. There are others. Using the word “feel” instead of “think” doesn’t make a thought (cognitive) a feeling (affective), even though we do it all the time. For example, I can say, “I feel this chapter was well written,” but by “feel”, I actually mean “I think”, so this is not a feeling. After you express your feeling, explain what the feeling was about.
