Assessment Task:
Compare and contrast international business management practices in two countries from different cultural environments and discuss how the roles of management or leadership or corporate governance may impact these practices in contemporary organizations.
An in-depth rather than a holistic approach is required for this research essay therefore you must:
- Select two countries from different cultural environments and highlight their management practices and cultural differences
- Select one role: management, leadership, or corporate governance and one aspect under this role
- Select one organizational size: small, medium, or large when comparing between two cultural environments
Cultural differences may include gender egalitarianism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, role of language and religion, values and attitudes and social structures(Hofstede 6 cultural dimensions) or any other relevant areas under the cultural domain. Select two areas for in- depth comparison.
Management’s role may include management functions, managerial roles, managerial skills and management styles or any other relevant areas under the management domain.
Leadership’s role may include leadership style, leader’s traits, sources of power, dimensions of trust or any other relevant areas under the leadership domain.
Corporate governance may include corporate governance perspectives (such as stewardship, agency or stakeholder), roles of Boards, diversity in Boards, ownership and power of firms or any other relevant areas under the corporate governance domain.
The size of an organization (small, medium or large) can vary according to the country selected for example, in New Zealand a small size organization has less than 20 employees, medium has between 20 and 49 employees and large has over 50 employees. In the United States, a small organization has less than 250 employees, medium has less than 500 employees, large has less than 1000 employees and enterprise has more than 1000 employees.
