Matthew Arnold’s poem, “The Beach of Dover,” explores the ever-changing world around us. “Dover Beach” is a poem approximately how industrialization and global modernism have changed the most crucial things in life: love of God and worship of God through faith. This poem overlooks the ocean on the French coast and glittering lighting fixtures within the distance. These “blinking” lighting fixtures also serve as a sight for those whose religion was once a strong and unshakable light but commenced blinking and now appear to have disappeared. People have deserted their religious beliefs for a simpler life, a lifestyle that praises machines’ beauty, now not the wonders of God.

In Dover Bitch, Hect describes this new world in a much more welcoming tone. This newfound cloth product and emphasis on bodily sensations are not pondered in his poetry. It is closed. The narrator focuses on the girl and describes her as an acquaintance. He may also meet once a year, and he “has numerous a laugh” (Hecht). However, the narrator of “Dover Beach” will hate this truth. The narrator pronounces to the woman, “Ah, love, let us be true.”. This is a person who still adheres to the traditional dating image where the person and lady are unswerving of every difference.

The narrators of ” The Dover Beach”articulate the deteriorating kingdom of faith.

The Sea of Faith

            Was once, too, at the full, and round earth’s shore

            Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.

            But now I only hear

            Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,

            Retreating, to the breath

 Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear.

            And naked shingles of the world (21-28)

This statement of the narrator, in flip, without delay, speaks of how faith crammed humans’ lives. Here he offers a brand new shape to religion-the “sea of faith”(Arnold). He describes the voice of religion as “A long chickening out roar” (Hecht), displaying how practical religion became in making it sound like a massive animal. The beast becomes driven farther and farther until its roar was slightly heard in the wind.

This lack of attention can be because of the feelings this narrator has for women, and in flip, his hatred for the men he is with. This pain is showed through what the malicious narrator said after admitting his sexual courting with a lady: “Perhaps 12 months has passed / earlier than I see him once more, but right here. / Thick, however reliable whilst they come”(O’Brien). This quote from the narrator explains that he is angry with men and women and may need to be with him more frequently; however, he is more like “Mr. Trustworthy.” This is further confirmed when the narrator says, “She’s really all right” He added, “she always treats me right” the things he says about this girl make readers consider he has feelings for her, even though he confesses them in no way. he seems pissed off when he tells readers that “perhaps it’s a year
