Before completing Discussion Question (DQ) #3, you should read Chapter 9 and review the chapter PowerPoint with a corresponding audio lecture in the following:
Discussion Question:
Step 1. For this DQ you should find a newspaper article and/or a media report that provides an example of police officer misconduct. This should not be an example of a police-involved shooting or excessive use of force since that is something that we will discuss more in a future chapter. Instead, it should be an example related to the types of misconduct discussed in chapter 9. You should provide a link to the newspaper article and/or the video in your DQ post. You should also answer the questions below. Make sure you provide numerous direct links to the readings/lectures.
1. Describe the type of misconduct presented. Was only one officer-involved or was it a group of officers? Were the officers held accountable?
2. Which of the two theories of police corruption do you think is more accurate (systemic theory or rotten-apple theory)? Why?
3. What do you think can be done to reduce police corruption? What are the biggest barriers to holding officers accountable?
Make sure you make direct and clear connections between your answers and the book chapters and lecture. Your discussion should be of 500 words. It does not include the name of the student, the university, the professor, or the name of the class.
Step 2. In general, by two different paragraphs what is your opinion write a summary with 400 words include your notes about this PowerPoint Ch. 9, audio lecture, and topic.
Step 3. At the end of the DISCUSSION, provide AT LEAST ONE question.
