The Mass Media Derogatory Depiction of Hip Hop Artists
This paper is the Chapter 1 Draft for a Thesis/Dissertation
The topic I chose to talk about is: The Mass Media Derogatory Depiction of Hip Hop Artists and Its Effects on Youth Development Within the African American Community
This Thesis/Dissertation is for a COMMUNICATIONS class so all of this has to be from a communications approach. So please keep that in mind when reading everything. Also, please keep in mind that I have not done any of the studies yet. All I have done are little assignments that set me up to write the first Chapter. No studies have been done or anything like that. Please be REALISTIC when writing this. Keep in mind I am a student with a limited budget.
When referring to media, we are looking at specifically SOCIAL MEDIA. That can be Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Please try not to be too specific on which one. Try to include all of them if you can.
I have uploaded several Thesis/Dissertations so you can have some guidance when doing it. Please refer to the sections that are titled verbatim to what it says in the template I was given.
For example, one of the sections in the template is ‘Statement of the Problem’. You can use the file titled “Fostn, G.K. – Social Inequality, Criminal Justice, and Race in Tennessee, 1960-2014” as a guide since there is a section in that dissertation that is titled ‘Statement of Problem’.
Another example, one of the sections in the template is ‘Method’. You can use the file titled “Cunningham, P – Marijuana Legalization and the Media” as a guide since there is a section in that dissertation that is titled ‘Methodology’. Another one of the sections in the template is ‘Introduction’. You can use this same file as a guide since there is a section in that dissertation that is titled ‘Introduction’
The file titled “CHON 300 Chapter 1 Template” is EXACTLY how you should format the paper
The file titled “CHON 300 Chapter 1 Outline” is what you should look at to get a better understanding of what you should format for each section.
Please use the two of these files to format the paper.
Please refer to the file titled “T Brown SOS RQ + SU” when doing the Hypothesis/Research Questions section and the Significance of Study section. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ADJUST IT ACCORDING TO THE FEEDBACK AND COMMENTS ON THE FILE (these were comments given by my professor).
Please refer to the file titled “Annotated Bibliography” to see what sources I will use. Make sure you use all 5 of these when writing the paper. I am okay with you adding sources, just make sure to add them to the references page IN ADDITION to the existing 5 sources.
In the annotated bibliography, you can see for each reference there is a theory. These are all communication theories used from the file titled “The Encyclopedia of Communication Theories”. Please make sure you clearly start what theory/ies would be used in my study. Remember everything has to be from a communications angle.
For the scope section, I am currently in DC so anything I could do for the study would have to be held in DC. I am targeting college students. It will most likely be online due to COVID. My parameters are music and social media.
Please refer to the file titled “Voice Memo Transcript” to see a conversation I had with my professor. This will help a lot when writing the paper.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WRITE THIS ON A UNIVERSITY LEVEL, NOT A HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE LEVEL. ALSO, MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING (you do not need to read the dissertation examples) BEFORE STARTING THE PAPER SO YOU DO NOT MISS ANYTHING. IT WILL SAVE US BOTH TIME AND ENERGY.
