Write a paper about one of the following topics:

1. What role did the completion of the Erie Canal and the Transcontinental Railroad play in the economic success of the new nation—America? 

2. Derwent in England marked the beginning of industrialization in the world. Write a paper about the innovations that came from Derwent in the 1700s, events that created a new way of producing goods for society. What were conditions like for the owners of this new industry and its workers, including children? How and whom did its advances benefit in society? Compare Derwent to the first factory in America. What were the differences and similarities between the owners and the workers?

3. What does the outcome of the November 3 election imply for our nation in the area of the economy, the city’s social fabric, in the area of education and health care. Incorporate your study of the major societal institutions into your answer and used specific examples to validate your argument.

4. Hispanic Month is celebrated in the US each year. Write a paper about its origins and its role as a major cultural event in America. Highlight some of the major achievements of Latino/Latinx citizens and their contributions to the arts, politics, and the economy of America.

5. What is the role of women in America as political stakeholders? Look historically at their contribution and how they relate to their current position in the nation economically, politically, and socially.

Tenochtitlan was described by Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes as “…the most beautiful city in the world.” Write a paper about this beautiful city: who built it, what was unique about this city? Where was it located in the world? Where is it now? What role did, and has Spain played to maintain, or rid the world of this magnificent city? 

7. Chicago & New York City are Global Cities. Write a paper about one of them, focus on their historical development, their status in the global economy, and their role during the peak of American industrialization in the mid to late 1800s.

8. How has COVID19 transformed the life of New Yorkers educationally, economically, and socially? What role has the major societal institution play in allowing our citizens to survive the pandemic? How would you compare this pandemic to the Spanish Flu pandemic?

The style to use for citing your sources is the MLA format. Your text is one of the required sources, and you should have at least 3. Your paper should be approximately 8 pages, of text maximum which includes 3 pages of text and a separate cover page and reference page.The line spacing should be 1.5, not double spacing. And your font should be 12 point.
