For this Discussion Board, I would like you to share your reaction to the subgenre of metafiction. Please describe in as much detail as you can how you reacted when you first read these two stories. Feel free to express whether you like metafiction or whether it drives you crazy – but then dig in a little deeper and explore why you had the reaction you did. Please include 1 quotation from either story in your response. Describe how you reacted to that particular line. How does the line you are quoting represent the story–and your reaction to it?

Classmate discussion
My reaction to the new metafiction was honestly confusion but a weird captivating interest to read more. I sort of felt connected to the writer because she spoke to me directly. She was also very blunt in her messages at the end. She forced me to imagine the words and scenarios she wrote. For example when she described the famine. I felt like I could feel and see what she was talking about. In addition, at the end of “Happy Endings”, she says something that was very honest and made me think of my life itself. She says, “The only authentic ending is the one provided here: John and Mary die. John and Mary die. John and Mary die” (Atwood, pp. 3). This made me think of how our personal stories end in real life. We all have the same ending as well.
