Are playscripts Literature?
the work of many playwrights that primarily focus on specific social or ethnic groups. In general, do you think that plays should deal with these narrower issues or should playwrights strive to focus on the larger issues of the human condition, disregarding social or economic concerns?
This is my point of view ：
I think that plays should deal with these narrower issue, it will be more effective and important. Playwright builds the world of the play:–Events–Characters–MeaningPlaywright hands finished script to director, actors, designers. Because not every type of drama will be loved and cared for by every audience. People will only pay attention to the subjects they are interested in, because then they can have a better resonance in watching and can express their feelings more.
Drama has always been a good way to reflect social questions. Society is a stage, and drama comes from life. Although what actors do on the stage is scripted, what they say is really rooted in our lives. When people are concerned about some social problems, they generally only pay attention to some topics that are relevant to them. For example, racial discrimination. This is a social issue that attracts the attention of the public. However, in my country, China, the issue of racial discrimination does not get the attention of the public, because China is not a country with racial diversity, so people will not pay special attention to this issue. But this is really a very important social problem to think about. Take myself for example, when I choose to watch a film, I will definitely prefer to choose a film that reflects my personal specific social or ethnic group. Each play and film has a unique meaning, and the purpose is not only to catch the audience’s eye and strike a chord with them. Certain types of drama can actually help people solve problems and problems. Therefore, focusing on narrow issues can make people more empathic and better solve some of the existing phenomena in today’s society.
