PQS Assignment 1 Semester 1 2020

This essay type assignment is worth 30% of module marks. The assignment should be uploaded to moodleno later than 5pm Friday 27^th November2020.

You may choose to complete either Essay 1 or Essay 2.

Word count expectation isbetween 3000 (minimum) and 3500 (maximum). (approx. 6 to 8 pages)

My guidelines for the assignment are below.

1. You should research the topic, read some articles. And then read some more………. There is NO NEED to rush. Good planning will result in a much better end report and the key point (from MY point of view!) is that you will learn something from doing it!
2. Decide on how you will structure the work- chapter headings/ sections etc. Roughly decide what you are going to include in each section. Good idea to have a beginning (introduction- make your aim known), middle (the “bones” of the work), and end (a conclusion. Have you achieved the aim?). Definitely better to include chapters/sections.

3 Do rough work at the planning stage. Do not include information for the sake of it or to increase word count. It won’t make the report better. If it doesn’t help your argument then leave it out!

3. Try to back up your opinions with examples. (either from something you have read (reference it) or real life)
4. If you use any information/ words that are not your own you must reference. (Info on how to ref will be posted in moodle). Include a list of references at the end. Use Harvard Ref system (recommended)
5. Avoid use of First person throughout. ( I think, It is my opinion, You should etc). Much better to start with ( It may be, It is likely, Evidence appears to show…..) Make your essay as professional as you can.
6. Your essay should be your own work- plagiarism will result in a mark of 0.You will be uploading your essay via “turn-it-in” which is our Software plagiarism detector.Over-referencing is as bad as not at all.
7. Late submissions will result in a loss of 3% per day- no exceptions. After 5days late no assignment will be accepted.
8. Use of images, figures, tables is recommended. Make sure to label them and reference as appropriate.

Essay Choices:

Essay Choice 1:

It has been said that the pharmaceutical industry has in the past lagged behind other industries in terms of efficiency (not in quality). Discuss this claim, explain the possible reasons for it and how or has it changed?

Essay Choice 2:

The ICH have vastly improved the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry, providing much needed guidance and structure. Discuss this statement and explain why you agree/disagree- include examples to support your viewpoint.
