Mental Illness

Critique the sociological approach to mental illness (as presented by Peggy Thoits, Ch. 6/ Week 7) as compared to the evidence presented in Lost Connections (Johann Hari, Ch. 2 & 7). Speculate about how a medical provider’s “approach” to mental illness might impact the way health services are administered and received. I

Citations: A variety of course material (ie: Class lecture information, course readings, videos, Critical Thinking Presentations) MUST be used to support your arguments. No outside sources may be used. Include source citations from class material in the body of each essay response. Use MLA style, including (1) the last name(s) of the author(s) and (2) the page number where the information is located. For instance, (Weitz, custom edition, Ch.6, pg.123). Make sure to note which edition of the Weitz Soc314 text you are using, ie: Weitz 5th, 6th, or Custom Edition. A bibliography is not necessary. This exam is part of your writing requirement for this course. Responses must include complete sentences and paragraphs. The Midterm Exam will be graded according to clarity, organization, spelling and grammar, thoroughness, solid analytical argument, and inclusion of sociological perspective. Be specific and give concrete examples to support your arguments whenever possible. Respond to ALL parts of the question.
