Germany after 1945

Submit a revised proposal for your final paper topic, with 1 a) a clearly identifiable and debatable hist. question, b) a thesis statement, c) a preview of a well-structured argument and d) the material/ evidence base for each aspect of the argument (2 pages), and 2., a critical, annotated bibliography of secondary and primary sources in which you summarize for each source in a paragraph what the author(s) argue, how they make their case, and how this source relates to (supports, complicates) your argument.

topic: Write a 10 page thesis paper on a topic concerning Germany after 1945. It may be a paper in which you examine a primary source or set of sources which you read against the historical context and knowledge of the historiography; it may also be a paper in which you engage with the ideas or work of a group of historic actors; Such work may include film, fiction, or e.g. architecture. Finally, it may be a paper in which you enter one of the major debates in the historiography of the period, based on your knowledge of sources and debates. Whichever option you select, the paper is to have a clear question and thesis, engage with historians’ debates as well as primary sources in a well-informed way, and provide a nuanced, wellevidenced, well-organized thesis.
