For this essay, you need to show that you have read a range of theoretical material both in and outside the book of readings, as well as the ability to find resources relevant to your topic and use them appropriately.

A 2000 word essay should include between 7 to 12 sources.

For both questions, ensure you:

∙ present a clear and well-supported argument in response to the question;

∙ identify, define and discuss key terms;

∙ demonstrate familiarity with the unit materials by citing them appropriately;

∙ choose relevant examples and analyse these in relation to the question.

Criteria for marking: Your written work will be assessed in terms of the following criteria:

Response to the question: answer addresses the question, is relevant and comprehensive. Grasp of key concepts: appropriate use of technical terms, provides definitions, applies terms and concepts accurately. Development of an argument: logical connection of points/ideas, avoids unsupported claims or generalisations. (40 marks)

Use of source materials: demonstrated engagement with subject materials, evidence of wider reading or research, appropriate use of quotations. Structure and organisation: the structure is relevant to the genre of the task (e.g. academic essay, report, dossier, etc.), well organised, appropriate introduction and conclusion, linked paragraphs. (30 marks)

Use of evidence/examples: use of relevant primary and/or secondary material in support of the argument, use of own examples were relevant or required. Clarity of expression: grammatical sentences, appropriate and concise word choice, correct spelling and punctuation. Referencing (Harvard style) style meets academic standards. (30 marks)
