Requirements:

Content: The Biographical/Historical Context section of the paper needs to establish the broader contexts leading up to the speech. This section of the paper should answer two main questions:

• How has the speaker’s life and work led them to give a speech on this particular subject?
• What broader historical contexts make this a significant subject to address in a speech at this particular moment in history?

Length: It should be at least 2 pages long (double-spaced, 1-inch margins, one-line header).

Sources: It needs to fully integrate the 3 academic journal article and/or book chapter sources that did your annotations on during the unit.

Grading:

You will be graded along four criteria:

• Completeness (25 points) – This includes the full 2 pages of content that addresses the questions above.
• Full incorporation of sources (25 points) – You need to effectively incorporate your research sources. Go into the details on what these sources are saying, and draw on them to help flesh out the essay. Do not give a “fly-by” citation that only scratches the surface of a source.
• Organization (25 points) – Each paragraph should have a clear topic sentence that summarizes the content of the paragraph.
• Professional style (5 points) – The document should be thoroughly proofread and formatted professionally.
