System Safety Concepts
Your research must show how System Safety Concepts are being applied or could be applied, to an existing system that was introduced after an accident occurred. As an example, the Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) was developed because pilots were flying aircraft into terrain due to loss of situational awareness, not mechanical problems. Throughout the course, we will be discussing the use of System Safety Management techniques in aviation and non-aviation settings. Your topic should be specifically on aircraft systems in real-world situations that were introduced based on accidents. Your topic may be on any system from real-world situations that were introduced based on/following accidents.
This is a draft document outlining the major elements of the research paper. I have selected aircraft fire protection systems. Research will focus on foundations and evolution of fire protections systems, and the regulations implemented to ensure compliance of these fire safety regulations.
For this paper, we will focus on Nigeria Airways Flight 2120
These elements should be included in your outline:
- Description of Aircraft Accident
- Description of chosen system
- How System Safety concepts are being applied, or could be applied
Papers that Do NOT focus only on a particular system and not based on an accident will be penalized, as will papers based solely on anecdotal information. Your analysis must be based on a well-defined system that has originated after an accident. The paper is intended to cause you to do some research as well as demonstrate your thinking and writing skills.
The final research paper is due in Module 8 and must have a body of six to eight pages, excluding abstract, the cover page, and references. The manuscript must comply with current APA style guidelines.
