Annotated Bibliography
Assignment:
An annotated bibliography is a crucial step in the process of collecting, understanding, and evaluating sources. It can also act as something of an early draft for a research paper. It is your opportunity to translate the ideas of your sources into your own language and to analyze them closely, so that you may integrate them into the larger researched conversation with proper context and clear-eyed assessment. While an annotated bibliography is not a traditional paper, it will take as much effort and, if completed successfully, will make the writing of a paper much more efficient.
We are researching “obedience in American society” to find sources that could be used in a research project that addresses the role of obedience in our society. One source will be Stanley Milgram’s “The Dilemma of Obedience.” The second source will be ONE of the following options:

https://www.baltimoresun.com/opinion/op-ed/bs-ed-trump-experiment-20160825-story.html

Process:
Begin by building a bibliography in MLA style of all your sources. Once you have read them all closely, return to the bibliography to “annotate” each citation. The annotation for each citation should have two lengthy paragraphs. The first one should summarize the source, using paraphrase and direct quotation. Recall that the best summaries will make good use of signal verbs and in-text citation to be clear that the ideas are someone else’s. The second paragraph should evaluate the source and explain how it is useful in explaining obedience in today’s culture, paying close attention to any biases the source displays, the angles of interest the source works from, and the style of writing the source deploys.
