PART A: CASE STUDY I (100 MARKS)

Read the text and answer the following questions:

Assume that you are working as a planner in a trucking company named “Den Beijer Strijen” in the Netherlands. You have to do some analysis to organize your strategic and tactical plans. Your company was planning to minimize transport time and cost. You have received 3 Requests from a freight services company to pick up cargo from 3 distribution centers as mentioned in each request and deliver this cargo to 3 different stores. The distribution centers are located in the Netherlands. (100 Marks)

1. In case the planner has insufficient information, to complete the Vehicle Scheduling; find out which parties the planner has to communicate to provide him with sufficient information to complete the schedule.

1. Analyse the data from the three requests for quotations and complete the table with the required data.

1. Explain the main factors which should be taken into your consideration before starting to prepare the Vehicle Scheduling. Write a short report on the factors with more clarification and how it’s affected on the time table of the vehicle as it’s mentioned in the question.

1.  Find out the shortest route, which will minimize transport costs and time. (Use the appendix to check the distance between different location).

1. Your company has 3 trucks; assign them to all requests while trying to minimize the number of trucks that you have been using.

1. Write a short report about the below case and include the answers to the following questions. Owing to tire puncture of one of the trucks, the work will stop for 2 hours, to complete the order as per contract;

1. Explain how these 2 hours can affect the business of the company.
2. What is your advice and recommendation to your manager to satisfy customers’ needs?
