This assignment will provide students with the opportunity to study and critically analyze a criminal justice policy issue (i.e. any criminal justice issue that has been, or could be, prevented and/or remediated through policy), of your own choosing, in depth. For this first assignment, you will need to select and research a current systemic issue within the criminal justice system. Special attention should be paid to selecting an issue that is neither too broad (too much research exists), nor too limited (not enough research exists). Examples will be provided by the professor. The paper should ultimately convey a critical analysis of the past, present and future of the issue, incorporating each of the required areas listed below. The paper must cite and reference at least seven sources. The references identified through research should consist of scholarly sources from academic journals. Other sources, such as white papers or think tank reports, may be accepted if the sources incorporate scholarly research and such research is discussed in your paper.
