Analysis / Argument Writing Task
What needs to be considered in order for America to move forward in securing “justice for all,” regardless of race, sex, or religion?
Directions: Write an analysis argument to share your opinion regarding the current national protests involving police brutality to answer the question at the top of the page. View the MLK and Malcolm X clips below and consider their opinions when developing your argument to support your point of view.
TIP: As you listen to each clip, take notes so that you can integrate information into your argument to analyze and develop in support of your thesis/claim.
Clips:
MLA CITATION: Be sure to cite text using parenthetical citations for video citations (minute:seconds). Use signal phrases in sentences as well (such as “As Malcom X states…”).
Include the end citations in MLA format under a “Works Cited” title; the MLA citations are located directly beneath each video clip.
Scoring:
20 – Develops a clear purpose/thesis statement
20- Develops logical points in support of the thesis with analysis and discussion.
20 – Integrates source information into own ideas effectively
20 – Uses proper citation conventions for MLA formatting.
10 – Uses proper grammar and sentence structure throughout.
10 – integrates a logical and effective rebuttal to the strongest objection to the thesis/claim.
