““All about Me and Us: Exploring Cultural Identity and Future Work”
: Multiculturalism and Global Awareness provides a space for an intellectual exploration of diversity and inclusion with some attention to personal introspection and forward thinking about your own contribution to a multicultural and inclusive society.
In this final paper, you will consider the profession you have chosen to pursue while also considering your own cultural background. The central question is:
Who am I culturally and how is my background an asset to my chosen profession?
Your inquiry paper must include these specific components:
• A statement of how you define yourself culturally (at least one page)
• An overview and discussion of your chosen profession (at least one page)
o A particular position or title
o Some statistical information on the demographics in the field (gender and ethnicity)
o At least one way the field itself values multiculturalism and inclusion
You can cite the mission or action of a related national organization or an academic program that would prepare you for the field.
• A discussion of how your cultural background is an asset to the field with diversity and inclusion in mind
o Narrow your cultural identity given the parameters of the paper (you will not be able to discuss thoroughly your intersecting identities)
o Share and discuss at least one major way your cultural identity is an asset to the field itself
 Consider one misconception about your cultural identity (at least one paragraph)
 Challenge the misconception with a discussion of your role in contributing to diversity, anti-racism and/or anti-oppression (at least 2 pages)
• A brief conclusion that summarizes your ideas and offers at least one lingering question about identity and understanding multiculturalism beyond this course (i.e. your future work) (at least one paragraph)
